Abstract: Self-starting control chart based on recursive residuals is proposed for monitoring the linear 
profiles when the nominal values of the process parameters are not known. This chart can detect a shift 
in either the intercept or the slope or the standard deviation. Due to the good properties of the plot 
statistics, the proposed chart can be easily designed to match any desired In-control average run length. 
The simulated results show that our approach has good performance across the range of possible 
shifts and it can be used during the start-up stages of the process.
